Edgewood Engaged 2020

16th Annual Edgewood Engaged - partnership

Welcome to Edgewood Engaged 2020! This year, we celebrate our Year of Partnership with our annual student research and creative inquiry symposium now in its 16th year. I encourage the Edgewood community and our community guests to attend "virtually" the variety of sessions offered by our engaged learners and their mentors here in this online forum.

Student research has been a long-standing feature of the Edgewood College experience for students and faculty. Even as we practice social distancing, the resiliency of our community spirit allows us to elevate the significance of inquiry and creative activity as an integral part of a liberal arts education in the Dominican tradition. New to the program in 2019, was a pitch competition. Although we are unable to present a formal competition in 2020, we have been able to preserve the process of mentorship and development of student-generated pitch ideas. All of our students continue to benefit from the wealth of opportunity that our dedicated faculty and staff mentors offer to a diverse population of our students in a multitude of formats.

We extend sincere appreciation to the many students, faculty and staff who contribute to our culture of scholarship. Above all, please allow me to single out a handful of partners whose agility and expertise made our event possible in this most exceptional year.

  • Jonathan Bloy and Nathan Dowd in the Oscar Rennebohm Library for designing and hosting our symposium in this digital platform.
  • Karen Franker and Rebecca Zambrano, and our entire online learning team for your expertise and support.
  • Phyllis Esposito and Victoria Palmisano, whose guidance, encouragement, and wisdom significantly shaped our endeavor to offer this 2020 Edgewood Engaged to the entire Edgewood College.

On behalf of the Student Research Advisory team, which includes over 20 faculty and staff, we offer to our community Edgewood Engaged 2020. With this event, we demonstrate our commitment to the Dominican Studium and offer space to study, reflect, and act through scholarship and engagement. This symposium is a demonstration of our resiliency and ongoing dedication to excellence in higher education in the most challenging of times.

With sincere gratitude for your continued partnership,
Shad Ryan Wenzlaff - Director for Student Research
