Front page of the Wisconsin State Journal, Oct 29, 2004You’ve likely used newspapers to keep up with current events and for research on a variety of topics.  Have you ever used it to research family history (glory days or days of infamy)?  It’s entertaining to check out the old advertisements; or find materials to share on your Facebook page.

Do you remember what was happening in Madison 12 short years ago?

Newspaper Archive is a searchable database that goes back over 400 years, and covers everything from small town newspapers, to international world news.  You can search or browse a specific location and/or newspaper.

In addition to historical news, it's a great resource for genealogical information.  Just search for the person's name.  For example, here's a search for Sister Nona McGreal, President of Edgewood College from 1950-1968.

Have fun checking out diverse perspectives, and unexpected finds!

You will find a link to Newspaper Archive in several places on our website, including the A-Z Resource List and News & Current Events research guide.
