On October 29 and 30 of this year, representatives of the Higher Learning Commission will visit Edgewood College as part of the accreditation process.  The work and focus of the Higher Learning Commission grew out of the regional accrediting agencies of the United States that were established in the early twentieth century.  Edgewood College received its first accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities in 1956.  From 1940 to 1950, Sister Nona McGreal and Sister Joan Smith did preparatory curriculum work and writing at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

Our digital collections has a copy of Phoenix from the Fire with the story of the accreditation process beginning on page 71
