A Prescription for Liberation:
Understanding and Dismantling the “Cruel Hand” of Mass Incarceration
February 23, 2017
11am - 1pm
Washburn Heritage Room
Lunch will be provided.
Join Macalester College history professor Crystal Moten in uncovering the connections between the “old” and the “new” Jim Crow and the impact of mass incarceration on individuals, families, and communities. With the hopes of developing “a prescription for liberation,” we will collectively consider Michelle Alexander’s call to action: What is needed to end mass incarceration and permanently eliminate racial caste in the United States?
Please read chapter 4 of The New Jim Crow prior to the session (link only available to Edgewood College users, sign in with your email and password).
