Dictionaries

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) - The OED Online traces the history of the English language word by word. Each of the 616,500 entries contains a definition, spelling, part of speech, etymology or origin, pronunciation, and quotations to illustrate usage. Other features include cross-referencing by word, as well as searching for quotations by author, date, text and keywords.

Dictionary.com - Comprehensive language website. Includes dictionary and thesaurus lookups, foreign language dictionaries, and links to other language websites.

Encyclopedias

Encyclopędia Britannica - Provides access to the complete print version of the encyclopedia (approximately 80,000 entries) along with daily updates, over 10,000 illustrations, photographs, drawings, maps, and video clips. Users may browse alphabetically, by subject, year, or geographically. An Internet Guide allows entries to be cross-referenced with relevant websites selected by the encyclopedia's editors.
