Banned Books Week

September 25, 2007

The Oscar Rennebohm Library celebrates Banned Book Week, September 29th to October 6, 2007.

Hey Kid, Wanna read a book?

In our age of potty-mouthed shock jocks, underwear being worn as outerwear, torture movies, internet porn, it seems almost quaint that anybody would get worked up over a book, but it happens all the time. The self-appointed arbiters of taste and decency are working overtime to protect you from what they feel you shouldn't be reading. In honor of their tireless labors, we have assembled a tasteful display of the most frequently banned books, some of which, such as James Joyce's Ulysses, Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five are now hailed as literary masterpieces. Fancy that!
