Edgewood College Present
On August 22, 2006, all college faculty and staff gathered for the August seminar that began the 79th academic year at Edgewood College. The seminar launched our campaign to create an inclusive and integrated community at Edgewood.
Vernon Wall from the Social Justice Training Institute was the keynote speaker. The seminar days were also designed to engage the campus community in discussions and activities geared toward connecting these 21st century students with the 800 year long Edgewood Dominican Catholic tradition of learning and living.
Edgewood College Past
A few years ago, Sister Jean Richter, Archivist, developed an excellent on campus visual display of the story of Mary Pothen. Mary (Miss Pothen) was a visiting faculty member at Edgewood College in the 1954-1955 academic year. Mary was from India. Before she came to Edgewood, she had teaching experience in catholic, muslim and government schools in her homeland.
During the last weeks of the summer session, we have transferred that text and those photos to a digital video format. You can now enjoy the story of Mary Pothen here on our website. Send us any comments you have about this presentation or requests for additional video displays.
Edgewood College Future
On Sunday, August 27, 2006, 295 first year students (freshmen) began their days at Edgewood. The diversity of this class of 2010 was evident to a graduate from the early nineties who returned to be a presenter at the convocation. As the faculty and staff are beginning the work of the fall semester at both Madison campus sites (Monroe Street and Deming Way), the self-study process that is a part of accreditation through the higher learning commission is also continuing.
