As part of our Native American Heritage Month activities, the Oscar Rennebohm Library, in partnership with Edgewood's Center for Diversity, is pleased to announce a lecture on Indian mounds by Dr. Leslie Eisenberg, a forensic anthropologist and archaeologist who coordinates the Burial Sites Preservation Program at the Wisconsin Historical Society, and Ho Chunk Nation leader Chloris Lowe.

Dr. Eisenberg, who along with Robert Birmingham , wrote Indian Mounds of Wisconsin, which was published by the University of Wisconsin Press in 2000.

Mr. Chloris Lowe is a member of the Sky Clan of the sovereign Ho-Chunk Nation (HCN), whose members have twice elected him as leader. Following his last term of office as President of the Nation (1997), Mr. Lowe accepted a position with the National Museum of the American Indian - Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.

The lecture will take place at the Anderson Auditorium, on Wednesday, November 30th at 4:00. As you know, Edgewood has several examples of these ancient earthworks here on our campus, most notably, the thunderbird between the library and DeRicci Hall. Here is your chance to find out more about these fascinating sacred art works.

Also, we equally pleased to note that our own Tim Andrews will also be presenting information on how native peoples may have lived here at this spot which we moderns currently refer to as the Edgewood campus.

This will be a fun and informative evening.
