Value Line User Guide

The Value Line Investment Survey is a comprehensive source of information and advice on approximately 1,700 stocks, more than 90 industries, the stock market, and the economy.

Step by step guide: finding Value Line reports

  1. Click on Articles & Indexes from the library home page.
  2. Under Resources by Subject, click on Business.
  3. Click on Value Line Investment Survey
  4. From the welcome screen, follow the instructions:
"To continue and log in click here."

Company Reports

Click Lookup Company from the sidebar on the left.

You can search by company name or ticket symbol. However, searching by company name can be problematic in Value Line, which uses its own abbreviations for company names. For example, searching for General Motors will not return any results, because in Value Line it is listed as Gen'l Motors.

The best way to find the report on a company is to search by the ticker symbol. If you do not know the ticker symbol, there are symbol lookups at Marketwatch and Yahoo Finance.

Once you locate a company by ticker symbol, Value Line will return two different reports.

The PDF report is in the exact same format as the print version of Value Line. The HTML report can be a bit easier to read and does provide more information than the PDF version (such as industry commentary, and rankings of industry peers).

Subscriber guides to reading the reports are available from Value Line.

Industry Reports

You can obtain industry reports by clicking on Lookup Industry from the sidebar on the left.

Click on the PDF symbol under Industry Commentary to read the industry commentary, or click on the industry's link (under Company Breakdown) to see reports from industry peers.
